Meet Carmen

Founder & Mentor

After graduating from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music, Carmen embarked on her professional journey as a music educator. Her passion for music and teaching led her to thrive as a singer, voice professor, and music director. Carmen’s students not only excelled in leading roles but also pursued music majors, became educators themselves, and even graced Broadway stages.

Throughout her teaching career, Carmen attributed her students’ success to their increased self-confidence, emotional resilience, and tenacity. She recognized that being a professional singer is a challenging path—one where talent and success are subjective. “Being a professional singer is one of the most elusive careers, and rightfully so. Your level of talent and the entire system of success is subjective. You must learn to create your own opportunities, know your worth, and competitiveness.”

In 2019, Carmen decided to expand her impact on youth by expanding her role in higher education administration. “When I was teaching in the classroom, I noticed institutional barriers that students of color were facing, and I wanted to be in a position to advocate for them.” Carmen currently serves as the Lead Diversity Project Coordinator at Lansing Community College where she has revitalized cultural mentorship programs, focusing on First Gen and minority students.

Her latest endeavor, B.E.Authentic, reflects Carmen’s unwavering commitment to cultivating connections that empower young women—from high school through college and into their professional lives.
